1. Attend college and earn a Bachelor of Science degree in premed, biology or another medically related field.

4. Study medicine for three years. Graduate medical school and complete a residency at a teaching hospital in neurology and psychiatry, each a four-year program.
5. Earn a fellowship in neuropsychiatry or behavioral neurology following your residency in psychiatry or neurology. Qualify to specialize in neuropsychiatry. The fellowship will last at least one year.
6. Receive designation as a specialist in neuropsychiatry after demonstrating extensive experience in the field.
7. Find a job with the neuropsychiatry department of a hospital, clinic or research facility. Private practices and clinics exist in this medical specialty.
