How to Accept the Way it Is

There is great freedom in accepting everything just the way it is. So much time is spent wasted on attempting to control our surroundings. It takes an effort to accept things as they are.

      Be aware of the world around you. Notice what is going on without judging or trying to change anything. The opposite of acceptance is trying to change things. There are very few things you actually have full control over.

      Ask yourself what productive things you can do in your life and do your best at all times. Anything beyond that is out of your control.

      Say yes to the realities in your life. Notice things like the weather and the fact that you cannot do anything to control it. Practice accepting things that are absolutely out of your control to help you accept smaller things that are not yours to control.

      Practice mindfulness. Notice your breath, count leaves on a tree, watch for patterns in your surroundings or count backwards from 100. Mindfulness calms your mind and allows you to accept things as they are.

      Journal your thoughts and feelings. If you feel out of control, one way to accept things just as they are is to write about them. Put your thoughts down on paper to help take the power out of them.
