How to Create a Picnic Kit
A picnic is always fun, especially when it happens spur of the moment. Assemble a picnic kit and keep it stocked, and you'll be ready for a picnic on short notice. Include utensils and plates for four. Choose flatware sets that include a spoon, knife and fork that lay flat against one another or lock in place. Select colorful dinner plates of durable material that hold up under a knife.

Make a picnic tool kit that include a corkscrew, a sharp knife and a bottle or can opener. Include a multi-purpose Swiss Army knife. Gather small packets of salt, pepper, sugar, sugar substitute, catsup, mustard and other condiments. Put them in a resealable bag.

Add a package of dinner napkins and roll of paper towels. Include a sealable container of wet wipes. Collect insect repellent, lip balm, sunscreen and adhesive bandages in a plastic bag.

Have on hand bottled water and juice boxes. Include ready-to-eat foods like peanuts, granola bars, energy bars, raisins, peanut butter crackers and dried fruit.

Keep a few books or small boxes of matches in a small plastic bag. Include a few small tealights or citronella candles.

Pack a Frisbee, a disposable camera, playing cards, squirt guns. Purchase a game that is reserved for picnics.

Keep everything together in a large basket, preferably with a lid and handles. Reserve the contents of the basket for picnics only.

Tips & Warnings
Tuck some plastic bowls (like the kind frozen dessert topping or margarine come in) into the picnic kit for the family pet. Fill one of the bowls with nonperishable pet food and seal the lid. Set it in a second empty bowl to be used for water.
