Step 1
Download a list of summer movie releases. Print a title list that includes a short description from a trailer, actors, director and release information. Pick an end date for the pool. Your participants must choose the top-grossing film from among films released between the start and the end date.
-
Step 2
Estimate the number of participants in your office and decide whether to use a share pool or a "pick'em" pool formula. Select a prize for the winner by using the proceeds to purchase something or offer a cash award. Check the legality of this first, as rules vary from state to state.
-
Step 3
Make a list of categories and designate points to each of them. Categories could include box office gross and weeks in the Top 10 grossing films list. If you use the Top 10, award 15 points for every week a film someone picks appears at number one, 9 points for each week at number two, 8 for number three and so on. For example, "Sweeney Todd" opens at number 3 (8 points), moves up to number 1 (15), stays there for 2 weeks and drops down to number 4 (7). After four weeks, the film has accumulated 45 points.

Step 4
Create a score system and chart on paper or with a software spreadsheet. Some website will automatically calculate, but they will charge fees.
-
Step 5
Collect fees from all the participants, then give them individual scoring cards with simple instructions for selections. Display a list of rules and regulations in the office. When you have everyone's selections, apply these to your chosen system and ensure that everyone can see the results. Either pin them to a notice board or using the company server. Update the score board regularly to keep everyone interested and send out regular lists of participants positions.
