Commemorate parenting by celebrating Parent's Day on the fourth Sunday of July. Recognize the parents you know by handmaking meaningful greeting cards to congratulate them on jobs well done.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Blank cards or cardstock
  • Envelopes
  • Patterned paper
  • Pen
  • Rubber stamps
  • Ink pads
  • Embellishments
  • Paint or chalk (optional)
  • Thread for stitching (optional)
  1. Step 1

Choose a blank card or cut a piece of cardstock you can fold to fit into a standard-sized envelope.

  2. Step 2

Create a design for the front of the card. Combine bits of patterned paper, small photos, stamped images, stickers or dimensional embellishments like ribbon, buttons, chipboard shapes, charms or paper flowers.

  3. Step 3

Give the card added visual interest with a border or edges swiped with stamping ink or chalk, dry brushed with acrylic paint or textured with stitching sewn by hand or on a machine.

  4. Step 4

Add a message to the inside of the card. Consider a simple stamped phrase, a cute saying uttered by the recipient's child, an inspirational quote about parents, song lyrics or lines from a movie.

  5. Step 5

Handwrite an additional sentiment (or at least your signature) below the card's message.

  6. Step 6

Decorate the envelope by cutting a coordinating piece of patterned paper to fit inside the flap, addressing it with a colorful pen or stamped letters and sealing it with a sticker or stamp.

Tips & Warnings
  • Before using dimensional embellishments on your card, check with the post office to confirm current size, weight and postage requirements.
  • If you're short on time, select, customize and send a Parent's Day e-card through a website like 123Greetings.com. (See Resources)
