Step 1
Talk to family, friends and your veterinarian for recommendations on doggy daycares, and look up a listing of doggy daycares online or in the phone book.
-
Step 2
Call the doggy daycares that you're considering and ask them a couple of initial questions over the phone. For example, ask what your dog will be doing all day while under their care, and inquire if all of the staff members are professional dog trainers.
-
Step 3
Visit the doggy daycare unexpectedly so that you can see what goes on when they're not expecting a visitor. Ask for a tour of the facility so that you can see for yourself how experienced the staff members are, how they treat the dogs and how much shade, rest and water they give the dogs.
-
Step 4
Ask how long the doggy daycare has been open, how many professional dog trainers are on duty at any given time, if the entire staff is trained in canine CPR and first aid, if they separate small dogs from large dogs, how the dogs are transported and if there are veterinary services nearby in the case of an emergency.
-
Step 5
Choose a doggy daycare that has a professional, caring staff where you know you'll feel comfortable leaving your pet for the day.
