First invented in the Philippines, the yo-yo has made its way into almost every modern society. Yo-yoing is no longer just for kids. There are many yo-yo competitions for people of all ages. The Monkey Climbing the String is just one of many yo-yo tricks that are exiting to learn and fun to perform.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Perform a sleeper. To do this, secure the yo-yo string to your finger. Hold the yo-yo in the palm of your hand. Flick your wrist and throw the yo-yo down. Let it fall toward the ground.
Step2
Place your forefinger from your free hand in the middle of the extended string. Pull the string up to chest level. If the tension is right on the yo-yo it starts to move back up after it reaches the end of the string. Do this step quickly to perform the trick correctly. This step brings the yo-yo above your hand.
Step3
Slide the string you grabbed in Step 2 into the groove of the yo-yo. A quick twist of the wrist pulls the yo-yo and string close together. Once the string enters the groove, continue to the next step.
Step4
Pull down with the hand attached to the yo-yo. This forces the yo-yo to move up and over your top finger. It creates the illusion of the yo-yo climbing the string like a monkey.
Step5
Practice the Monkey Climbing the String trick until you do it seamlessly. This trick works at any speed but looks more convincing when performed slowly.
