How to Perform the Confederate Flag Yo-Yo Trick

There's so much more you can do with a yo-yo than just bounce it up down; there are tricks you can do, too. A fun yo-yo trick is the Confederate or Jamaican flag trick. This is a trick with the string of the yo-yo and is actually very easy.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Instructions

1. Go ahead and put the middle finger of your right hand through the tiny hole at the top of the string. Let the yo-yo hang straight down.

2. Grab the string with your left hand using three fingers (upper joints). Do not include your pinky.

3. Take the string with your right hand using the top three fingers. If done correctly, you've formed a triangle with the point at your right hand and the bottom of the triangle at your left.

4. Pull the string again with the top of your left hand. Now you've formed most of a rectangle with an X in it. There shouldn't be a line of string at the bottom of the flag yet.

5. Hook the string one last time with the pinky of your right hand.

6. Notice that you've formed a rectangle with an X in it, similar to the Confederate flag which explains the name of the trick.

Tips & Warnings

• You're not actually doing any of this trick with the yo-yo portion of the yo-yo. It's just there for weight.
• This trick will take some practice to get it right.
