Yo-yos make fun for every member of the family. Children enjoy the challenge of making the yoyo simply go up and down and the parents join this fun by learning a few basic tricks. Choose a basic yo-yo or select a more advanced type to perform your tricks. Purchase a yo-yo for each child and don't forget to get one for yourself.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose from the two basic types of yo-yos, which are round, also called imperial and the butterfly. The butterfly sort of looks like butterfly wings, which is why they choose this name.

  2. Step 2

Select imperial for looping tricks. These tricks keep the yoyo in motion during the entire trick.

  3. Step 3

Perform more complex tricks with the butterfly type of yo-yo. Create string tricks with the butterfly type of yo-yo. Develop your yo-yo skills first before attempting these advanced tricks.

  4. Step 4

Decide if color is important to you. Children like certain colors better and play longer with toys that appeal to them. Choose the color your child likes best.

  5. Step 5

Consider the weight of the yo-yo when choosing your basic yo-yo type. Weight distribution within the yo-yo affects trick performance so decide what types of tricks you want to perform and buy the appropriate yo-yo type.

  6. Step 6

Purchase a basic yo-yo made of plastic or metal. Plastic yo-yos are more prominent but metal yo-yos are more durable. Decide which is right for you.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are buying a yo-yo just to have fun with it buy your basic round imperial type. Play with it and have fun. If you then decide to upgrade your skills, choose a more advanced yo-yo.
