It's unfortunate that with every great technology there has to be a protective feature. There are unscrupulous folks always trying to get into your home, your television and, yes, your Internet connection. Internet Explorer's Content Advisor feature helps to keep the bad stuff out.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Open an Internet Explorer web browser.

  2. Step 2

Choose the "Internet Options" menu item. It's located under the Tools menu.

  3. Step 3

Locate and click the "Content" tab. In Internet Explorer 7, the "Content" tab is the fourth tab from the left. It may vary depending on which Internet Explorer version you're using.

  4. Step 4

Click the "Enable" button. It will open a window entitled Content Advisor. The Content Advisor window has several tabs by which you can control the content you wish to receive. You may approve content by ratings under the "Ratings" tab. Adjust the slider to the left or right to determine how much of a particular rating category your users can see. Or, you can manually insert the approved sites under the "Approved Sites" tab. Under the "General" tab you can enable the "Supervisor" option and select a password to control the content. However, if you're a pro with Internet Explorer, you can modify the "Advanced" options.

  5. Step 5

Click "OK" to save and apply your settings.

Tips & Warnings
  • Not all Internet websites are rated. Keep that in mind when setting the "Ratings" tab. It may not filter out all unwanted content.
  • If you wish to disable Content Advisor, follow Steps 1 through 4 above. In Step 4 where it says to click "Enable," click "Disable" instead. Then click "OK" to save and apply your settings.

on 9/16/2008 HELLO! I REALLY ENJOY THE FEATURE BUT,WHEN DOING ALOT OF SURVEYS THIS IS NOT CONVENIENT AS SOME QUESTIONS ARE YES OR NO AND FOR EVERY QUESTION ON EVERY SURVEY FOR OVER 30 CO'S IS ALOT OF UNNECCESSARY TYPING. I APOLOGIZE FOR THE TRUTH BUT,LOVE THE KNOWLEDGE THAT THIS IS A VERY USEFUL FEATURE BUT,ON SOME COMPUTER'S FOR THE INDIVIDUAL IT CAN BE SOMEWHAT OF A TIME CONSUMING EVENT. INSTEAD OF 20 MINUTES FOR A SURVEY IT TAKES ME AN EXTRA 5 MINUTES DUE TO USING IT. THANK-YOU.
