Step 1
Use brush markers. Brush markers allow a lot of variation in brush stroke controlled by the wrist of the artist. They are a favorite of illustrators, and the most popular brands are Prismacolor and Chartpak.
-
Step 2
Try wide-tipped markers. Wide felt-tip markers are needed to fill in large areas with solid color. To get most uniform color with no streaks, color in very small strokes. The better the quality of marker, the easier it blends.
-
Step 3
Draw tiny details with marking pens. These are a favorite of engineers and architects or others that draft. They are also used by artists and illustrators for extra-fine lines. Pilot is a favorite brand of marking pens.
-
Step 4
Paint with paint markers. Paint markers are used in many crafts, since they color on a wide variety of surfaces. Try Sharpie Paint Markers on wood, metal, glass or anything.
-
Step 5
Get water-based markers. Most water-based markers are washable, so they are great for use with children. Try watercolor markers, which is a great way to introduce paints to children.
-
Step 6
Consider getting permanent or washable markers. There are many kinds to choose from both categories. Washable markers like the Crayola brand are, of course, great for children, or when having children around. Permanent markers like Sharpies do not fade nearly as fast, however.
