Instructions

    • 1

Soften the butter. Remove the butter from the refrigerator about ½ hour before starting the recipe. If the butter is frozen, let it sit at room temperature for about an hour. The butter is easier to manipulate when it's at room temperature.

    • 2

Sprinkle the sage into the butter.

    • 3

Mix the butter and the sage thoroughly. For small amounts of sage butter, you can use a spoon to mix. If you're making a large batch of sage butter, use a hand-held mixer instead. Evenly distribute the sage throughout the butter. You don't want butter with clumps of sage in one or two spots.

    • 4

Add salt and pepper to taste.

    • 5

Place the sage butter in a container and refrigerate.

    • 6

Tie a string around your finger to remember to place the sage butter container on the table. With so much to do to prepare a Thanksgiving dinner, it's easy to forget a food item you haven't made before.

Tips & Warnings

  • Sage butter has a 10 day shelf life in the refrigerator. If you are not going to use it all within 10 days, you should store it in the freezer.
