    • 2

Wipe down the ceiling surface with a dry or tacky cloth to remove any foreign objects. Make sure the ceilings are smooth and free of damage before you texture them.

    • 3

Cover the floor with a heavy-duty drop cloth.

    • 4

Mix a large bucket of drywall joint compound briefly until it's smooth. The joint compound texture should form peaks, but not drip.

    • 5

Apply the joint compound to the ceiling with a large trowel. Work in small areas and allow the compound to form peaks. Let this dry until it's firm, but not solid.

    • 6

Run the trowel over the surface of the ceiling and knock off any of the semi-dry peaks of joint compound for a rich texture. Let the entire ceiling dry completely.

    • 7

Paint the ceiling with desired interior paint scheme.

Tips & Warnings

  • Place the trowel through a large piece of cardboard and run the vacuum hose through the cardboard as well to catch a good amount of ceiling debris.

  • Repair any cracks or stains on the ceiling surface before applying joint compound or paint.

  • Don't over mix the drywall joint compound or you won't achieve a good texture for your ceiling.

  • A respirator must be worn for this project.
