Step 1
Brush the toe of your right foot forward.
-
Step 2
Set it down firmly. You want your toe to make a nice: "fa-LAP" sound. The flap sounds heavier than the shuffle because you're putting your weight on your toe.
-
Step 3
Keep your heel off the ground when you're doing the flap in tap dancing. This helps the flap to have its distinctive, two-part sound.
-
Step 4
Practice the flap in tap dancing in place at first.
-
Step 5
Balance on your left foot and flap with your right foot over and over. You will find that it is easier to keep your balance when flapping in tap dancing, even when you do it with one foot repeatedly since you are putting your weight on that foot each time.
-
Step 6
Switch to your left foot and practice flapping with your left foot over and over.
-
Step 7
Alternate your feet as you flap in tap dancing, flapping first with your right foot and then your right.
-
Step 8
Flap across the floor, remembering to make that distinctive two-part sounds with your feet as you do so.
