Step 1
Begin with your left hand extended in front of you with your right hand over it. Your left hand palm should be facing down with your right hand palm facing up. This is how to begin a right-handed low knife-hand block.

Pull your left hand back to your hip while maintaining a fist. Your non-blocking hand will go to a ready position. Rotate your wrist as you move your hand so that your fist is facing upward when it lands on your hip. You will perform this step at the same time your perform Step 3.

Extend your right hand to the blocking position. The low knife-hand block is similar to a low forearm block, except you will be blocking with the side of your open hand instead of your forearm. Extend your right arm so that your hand ends up about half way over your right thigh. As you are extending, rotate your wrist and open your hand, so that you have an open hand knife position with your palm facing down.
