The front snap kick in Taekwondo is one of the basic kicking maneuvers to master. It's a good self-defense move and perhaps the simplest of the Taekwondo kicks. Most of the Taekwondo forms contain at least one front snap kick.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Begin in the ready walking stance. In this stance, your hands are in fists at your sides, and your feet about a shoulder-width apart with one leg behind the other, as though you are taking a medium-size step. For our purposes, put your left leg forward and your right leg in back.

  2. Step 2

Raise the knee of your back leg up to about hip level. The general rule of physics here is that you want your knee to be slightly higher than your intended target.

  3. Step 3

Pull your toes back and extend the leg out toward your target.

  4. Step 4

Draw your leg back so that your knee is back at hip level as it was in Step 2.

  5. Step 5

Set your foot down behind the front leg so that it rests in the same place it was when you began.

  6. Step 6

Execute this kick with speed, snapping your leg out and back.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep your toes pulled back and strike with the ball of your foot. It hurts if you make contact with your target and don't have your toes out of the way.
