While most people are not accustomed to having their stomachs massaged, it is the most common area of the body to store tension, stress and negative energy, making it an important area to work. There are a number of techniques in Swedish massage to work the stomach muscles in a gentle and non-invasive manner, ensuring the client's pleasure and comfort.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Massage lotion or oil
  1. Step 1

Begin the Swedish stomach massage with your client face up on the table. If your client is a woman, be sure to place a secure breast drape on the chest so that she feels comfortable and unexposed. Place the lower drape firmly under the hips. You will be using the hip bones and lower rib cage as your boundary, so leave all areas in between exposed.

  2. Step 2

Rub a very small amount of massage lotion or oil into the palms of your hands, and place your dominant hand just over your clients navel. With very light pressure, slowly and smoothly work your hand in a circular motion, just to warm up the muscles and allow your client time to adjust to the idea of having the stomach worked. Because the movement inside of the intestines move clockwise, always work in a clockwise direction to prevent the disruption of regular body function.

  3. Step 3

Place your non-dominant hand directly above your dominant hand with your fingers overlapping and begin to make small circular motions with your fingertips as you move around the boundaries of the stomach. Speak to your client the entire time, making sure that they are comfortable with the work.

  4. Step 4

Gradually work a bit deeper, only if your client is comfortable. Remember that the stomach area does not need a lot of firm pressure in order to release the muscles, as it is extremely sensitive. Generally, about ten passes of this Swedish massage technique will be all your client will need and want.
