Sugar waxing is a great hair removal technique for people with sensitive skin. Regular waxing methods can harm sensitive skin, leaving redness and irritation behind. Sugar waxing is cheaper than other wax methods and leaves less mess for an easy cleanup afterwards.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Cut a cotton sheet into sections about three to four inches wide and as long your leg beneath the knee.
Step2
Mix 2 cups of sugar with ¼ cup lemon juice and ¼ cup of water in a pot. Heat the mixture until the sugar has completely melted or has reached 250 degrees on a candy thermometer. Allow the mixture to cool briefly and test it on your skin before you apply a large section.
Step3
Apply the sugar wax to your skin with a small, plastic spatula in the direction of the hair growth. Press a cotton strip against the wax, pressing down in the direction of the hair growth multiple times to ensure the wax sticks to the hair.
Step4
Grasp the end of the cotton strip and pull it back firmly against the grain of your hair.
Step5
Repeat Steps 3 and 4 on each section of your legs.
Step6
Gently pat your legs with a cool washcloth when you are finished waxing. You can also take a cool or lukewarm shower to help remove the residue on your legs.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wash your cotton strips soon afterwards so you can use them again.
  • Redness and bumps may appear just after sugar waxing if you have very sensitive skin. Don't worry as this is a normal reaction and should go away quickly. Most people choose sugar waxing because of its low risk of irritation.
