How to Shoot the Soccer Ball With the Forehead

When it comes to making the goal in soccer, you can use your head just as easily as your feet. The forehead shot takes some practice. Once you have it you, are able to add another shot to your offensive plays.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Approach the flying ball with the front of your head, or forehead.

  2. Step 2

    Use your shoulders, back and upper body to direct and push the ball down towards the goal as you make contact with the ball.

  3. Step 3

    Keep the contact with ball on your head in the front to prevent injuries. You should try to keep the impact at the upper forehead right near your hairline.

  4. Step 4

    Clench your teeth and jaw tightly shut, along with your mouth to prevent mouth injuries.

  5. Step 5

    Aim the ball towards the corners of the goal when heading it.

  6. Step 6

    Find the right spot on your head put a piece of masking tape just below your hairline on your forehead. Use a beach ball to hit over and over to find the right spot.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always keep your eyes open when heading the ball so you can see exactly where it's coming from.
  • Practice hitting the ball with your forehead using a softer ball like a school yard ball or soft volleyball.
  • Don't use your head to force the ball. The strength should come from your back and upper body. Turn your head to direct the ball only.
  • Many experts advise against young soccer players hitting the ball with their foreheads. Too many injuries result from miss hits or over hitting with the head.
