Passing drills in soccer teach more than how to deliver the ball. They encourage teamwork and communication and help players learn to negotiate field space. Finally, passing drills are a great way for players to learn to maneuver the ball with whatever foot the ball comes to, rather than always selecting the dominant foot.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Place a player in each corner of the soccer field and a supply of balls.

  2. Step 2

Group the remaining players in teams of two. These two must stick together throughout the exercise.

  3. Step 3

Begin the drill by having one corner player pass a ball to a team. Instruct the team member who receives the kick pass it to her teammate, who then must pass it back to the corner player.

  4. Step 4

Cycle the teams through each corner so that everybody gets a chance to pass. Many coaches make it mandatory for team to go to an opposing corner to repeat the drill so that the players get some extra exercise.

  5. Step 5

Coach techniques and communications to all the players as they run this drill. Correct any issues you note, such as a player who always receives with one foot, or another who always receives the ball.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can increase the difficulty of this drill by setting up cones that each team member must pass the ball through prior to passing the ball off to a teammate or back to the corner player.
