Step 1
Choose one snow ski on which to start practice. It can be either foot. Keep the other boot free of a snow ski.
-
Step 2
Move yourself along by pushing with the boot without a ski. Glide on one snow ski and get the feel. If you begin to get uncomfortable or fearful, simply put your boot down to stop the glide. You can adjust the speed with additional pushes.
-
Step 3
Practice several turns while you have on one snow ski. Feel how the edges of the skis cut the snow. Straighten the ski push yourself forward and try another turn. Remember, you always can lower your other boot if you feel unstable.
-
Step 4
Push the edge out on the one snow ski and apply weight. Feel how the edge helps you stop by cutting into the snow.
-
Step 5
Remove the snow ski and put the other one on. Practice all the same moves on that one snow ski. Once you feel comfortable, you're ready to put both skis on and begin the next level.
