Small ceramic flat irons can style hair in numerous ways, all while eliminating frizz. Good for short or medium length hair, small irons are virtually damage free. They can create simple straight styles or tiny curls.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cream or gel
  • Flat iron
  • Tissue
  • Spray or serum
  1. Step 1

Apply a thermal protecting cream, a straightening cream or a gel. If using the flat iron for straightening, choose a protecting or straightening cream and apply to clean hair after you've blown it dry. If using the iron for a small curl, use a gel with a light hold on damp hair before you blow dry.

  2. Step 2

Test the temperature of the iron on a tissue to make sure it isn't too hot. If you see any smoking or burning of the tissue, let the iron cool off and lower the setting.

  3. Step 3

Place the iron as close to the scalp as possible without touching the skin, with a section of hair between the plates. Let the hair glide through the plates of the iron gently, all the way to the ends.

  4. Step 4

Follow a circular, arching motion if you want the ends of your hair curled under. To do this, glide the iron up away from your scalp and bring it down in a circular motion, turning under the ends of the hair.

  5. Step 5

Create small curls with the iron by putting the section of hair between the plates starting near the scalp. Wrap the hair section around the iron, twisting hair as you wrap. Hold this for just a few seconds and release the plates.

  6. Step 6

Straighten hair with a sleek, flat look by simply gliding the iron straight down the hair shaft past the ends. Keep the iron close to the scalp so you don't add any volume.

  7. Step 7

Finish with hairspray if you opted for curls. Dab a bit of a shine finishing product on straight styled hair.
