To keep a truly clean house, don't forget the spots that don't show. Clean under the fridge frequently. The dirt that you find the first time creates a big reminder for the future. Cleaning under the fridge is a simple process, and one that saves you money on your electric bill.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Vacuum
  • Vacuum hose attachment
  • Disinfectant
  • Long, thin brush

Step1
Unplug the refrigerator or shut down the power. Any time that you're working on any kind of electrical device, shut the power off for safety.
Step2
Remove the front grate at the bottom of the fridge. This is the only way you can get to the dirt when you clean under the fridge. Remove and clean the water collection tray. Disinfect it to kill any mold.
Step3
Clean the entire area with a vacuum first. When you vacuum, you remove the loose debris that collects underneath.
Step4
Brush with a long thin stiff brush. The coils underneath are dirt attractors. When you remove the debris that is stuck to the coils, your fridge works more efficiently and lowers your electric bill.
Step5
Vacuum one more time to collect the debris that you brushed loose. This final vacuum removes the debris that you broke free with the brush and keeps any hair or dust from recollecting on the coils.
Step6
Put the grill back on and turn on the power.
Step7
Repeat this process every three months. If you have pets that shed, do it more often. Once a month works well to keep the hair from collecting on the coils.
