Learning to professionally ride a motocross bike is difficult and requires lots of practice, dedication and patience. You must also practice proper safety and riding techniques to avoid injury and build your skill level. Before getting into the world of professional dirt biking, make sure you know what to expect and what is expected of you.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Start simple and in a wide open area. When starting any new move, trick or even sport, you want to make sure you understand the basics clearly before moving on to the next difficulty level. You also want to make sure you are learning any new move or trick in a wide open area, away from other people.
Step2
Dress for safety. Even when learning to balance and ride the motorcycle, you should be in full safety gear. This should include riding pants, riding shirt, boots, gloves, a helmet, goggles and any other safety equipment you may want to wear.
Step3
Visit a dirt track in your area on an off day, when there is no racing or practice going on. This will give you the time and freedom to become familiar with the different aspects of a professional track, such as the jumps, turns and straight aways. Be consistent in your riding and maintain control over the bike at all times.
Step4
Talk with local motorcycle dealers about the local race scene. They will most likely be involved in some way and know when and where the races are. They will be able to give you tips based on your riding level, body frame and bike for the best riding and possibly invite you to shows or other events they are hosting.
Step5
Join the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA). This membership will not only give you benefits in the racing world, such as access to higher level professional races, but also exposure to the sponsors you will need to continue. Sponsors such as, Vortex, MSR, Rockstar Energy Drinks, Big Gun Exhaust and So Cal Racing, just to name a few. For networking opportunities with sponsors, check out MX Sponsor.
