Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Small fruit flies
  • Hungry poison dart frog
  • Mashed banana
  • Oatmeal
  • Canning jar
  • A paper towel
  • A rubber band
  1. Step 1

Purchase fruit flies from a local pet store or other pet food supplier. You can also raise your own fruit flies by mixing mashed banana and oatmeal together. Put a few fruit flies together with the mixture in a canning jar and cover it with a piece of paper towel secured with a rubber band. The fruit flies will multiply rapidly within a few days.

  2. Step 2

Remove the aquarium lid where the dart frogs live. Make sure the frogs are not sitting near the top of the aquarium or they may attempt to jump out. Drop a few fruit flies into the aquarium and quickly put the lid back on. You should provide four to six fruit flies per frog. Make sure the fruit flies are small because the frogs may refuse to eat larger fruit flies.

  3. Step 3

Watch the frogs as they eat the flies. Observe how the catch them and eat them. You will be able to determine if the fruit flies are too large by the struggles of the frog. Placing too many large fruit flies or an abundance of fruit flies in the aquarium at one time can stress the poison dart frog and cause it to experience health problems.

  4. Step 4

Ask questions at your local pet store or zoo about poison dart frogs. The more you learn about them, the happier and healthier the poison dart frogs will be. They are exotic pets and require special care. Fruit flies are a great way to provide your poison dart frogs with a healthy meal that they will always enjoy eating.

  5. Step 5

Feed your poison dart frogs once a day.
