Making your own piñata is a fun way to prepare for a child's party and it's easier than you might think. All you need to know is the details of making the starch mixture for the piñata and you'll be off and running so you can enjoy making the rest of the creation.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 cup white flour
  • 5 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  1. Step 1

Assemble the ingredients you need to make the piñata and have them ready before you prepare the starch. This will allow you to work with the starch while it is most flexible.

  2. Step 2

Get a large bowl that is fairly wide at the bottom. You will need this bowl to prepare the starch mixture and dip the newspaper strips into it.

  3. Step 3

Take 1 cup of white flour and 5 cups of water and mix these two ingredients together. Stir out any lumps.

  4. Step 4

Stir until the starch mixture is the consistency of thick glue. Add 1 tablespoon of salt and stir until the salt dissolves. This will help preserve the mixture.

  5. Step 5

Transfer the starch mixture to a large pan and boil it on the stovetop for 3 minutes. Let the starch mixture cool completely before making your piñata. Rinse out the large bowl, and when the starch mixture has cooled, transfer it back to the bowl and use immediately to make the piñata.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can substitute liquid laundry starch to make the piñata if you're pressed for time.
