How to Do a Parkour Lazy Vault

Parkour's lazy vault is a refined version of the single, planted-hand jump seen in the chase scenes of dozens of action movies. The vault gets you over an obstacle quickly and efficiently and uses the extra push from your unplanted hand to buy you enough time to spot a safe landing.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Step1
Get a running start in a straight line with the object you're doing the parkour lazy vault over. Reach a half-sprint as you arrive at the obstacle.
Step2
Jump off of your right (or dominant) foot when you get one pace from the obstacle. Raise your left knee so that your hips turn from vertical to a horizontal position as you proceed through the jump.
Step3
Plant your right hand on the object to leverage yourself over it in a sideways position. Tuck your knees further toward your chest and bring them higher sideways.
Step4
Return your feet towards a center direction and return your hips from sideways to a position that puts them parallel to the ground. As you reach this position, plant your left hand behind you on the obstacle and use it to give yourself an extra push to thrust you off the object. Keep your eyes ahead and spot the landing, especially if you're moving into a parkour precision.
Step5
Land both feet at the same time and then take a small run to dissipate the remaining force of the lazy vault.
