Step 1
Buy yourself a pair of shoes that provide support for your feet and ankles and grip surfaces extremely well. Consider basketball and tennis shoes or, if you want to try something a little more specialized, an inexpensive pair of climbing shoes. In all cases, make sure you buy a pair of shoes that you don't mind replacing, since parkour puts a lot of wear on the shoes.

Step 2
Get loose pants or shorts that allow you to bend at the knees and waist without any restriction whatsoever. Track pants from Adidas are favorites among traceurs but a well worn pair of jeans are just as likely to count as gear among parkour devotees.
-
Step 3
Select an MP3 player that helps you find your rhythm by playing your music as you do parkour. If the MP3 player you buy is more geared toward good sound than absorbing bumps and scrapes, find a silicon case that can protect the device so you don't have to buy it twice (or more).

Step 4
Invest in a parkour DVD that shows you how parkour "pros" execute and innovate moves. The "American Parkour" DVD from the company of the same name is a good tutorial parkour DVD, while the "Parkour Journeys" video inspires with new moves by the elite of the sport.
