Step 1
Understand how to perform a "flare" while paragliding. A flare is the essential technique used to land a paraglider and requires certain procedures. To flare the paraglider, take the brakes in each hand and pull them down to your sides and hold them in position. This action reduces the surface area of the paraglider and allows it to descend.
-
Step 2
Plan where to land before you launch your paraglider. Ensure that you have ample space to land safely and that you follow all rules and procedures in the area where you plan your landing.
-
Step 3
Face the wind when you land in paragliding. The wind helps to control the rate in which you descend towards the ground and allows for a softer landing.
-
Step 4
Prepare to land using specific procedures. At approximately 20 feet off of the ground, hang out of the harness with your legs together and your knees bend. Hold the brakes in your hands and at 5 feet from the ground, flare the brakes fast to minimize the paraglider and run a few steps when you hit the ground.
-
Step 5
Gather your paraglider quickly to accommodate other fliers and carry it to your destination so it doesn't get damaged from the ground. Find an open space to lay out the paraglider and inspect it for snags or tears before you pack it away.
