Step 1
Choose tender cuts of meat for best results when pan-frying. If you are using a tougher cut of meat, consider marinating it first. Generally, the more marbling (fat) a piece of beef has, the juicier it is. The thickness of the cut of meat is also a matter of your preference.

Select a skillet large enough to hold the meat you are cooking for your family. You want enough room around each piece of meat so the sides can brown nicely.

Put a small amount of oil in the skillet. The type of oil you choose is up to you. You can use cooking spray in a non-stick skillet if you wish, or you can use whatever type vegetable oil you prefer. You can also use butter, but it does burn easily.

Heat the frying pan until the oil is hot. Carefully put the meat in the pan. To preserve the juiciness of the steak don't puncture the meat as you cook it. Turn the heat down if necessary.

Let the meat brown on one side. Turn it over with tongs about halfway through cooking and brown it on the other side.

Cook the meat to desired doneness. Rare or medium rare meat may take only a few minutes to cook, whereas medium well or well-done beef may take several minutes to finish cooking.

Remove the cooked beef from the skillet to a serving platter. Season with salt and pepper and whatever else you like after you remove the meat from the stove to preserve the beef's tenderness.
