How to Deal With Chopped Balls in Paintball

Paintball was created in 1976 by two friends who were inspired after reading Richard Connell's "The Most Dangerous Game." A chopped ball is a paintball that does not enter the gun's barrel correctly. When a chopped ball is fired, the ball cuts in half. Chopped balls cause the gun's barrel to clog with the other half of the paintball.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Unscrew the barrel of the paintball gun. Most paintball gun barrels unscrew but some have a small screw that must be loosened first. The screws on these guns do not require tools to loosen them.

  2. Step 2

Insert the end of the squeegee into the paintball gun barrel. Use the right size of squeegee for your gun. The squeegee needs to be longer than the barrel of the gun.

  3. Step 3

Push the squeegee all the way through the paintball gun barrel. Twist the squeegee around in circles to remove any paint or residue. This forces the chopped ball out the other side of the barrel.

  4. Step 4

Pull the squeegee out of the barrel.

  5. Step 5

Hold the barrel up to a light. Look through the end of the paintball gun barrel to check that the chopped ball and all the paint is gone.

Tips & Warnings
  • It may take more than one pass with the squeegee to clean the barrel.
  • Use rubbing alcohol on the squeegee to clean extremely dirty paintball gun barrels.
