How to Make an Origami Star Box

Create an interesting and functional piece of art, the origami star box. The many folds and pockets of the origami star box require an experienced crafter's hand. Be patient and precise while following the design pattern. Add to the aesthetics by using decorative origami paper.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Square origami paper
  • Pencil
  1. Step 1

    Crease and unfold the square origami paper diagonally in half to made the preliminary base. Fold in half the other way to make a triangle.

  2. Step 2

    Take the right point of triangle up from the triangle's center crease to form a mountain fold from the bottom center crease to the triangle's top point. Flip the paper over and make the same mountain fold on the other side.

  3. Step 3

    Unfold after creasing the right side top flap from the top point to the center crease. Take the bottom point to the center crease. Bring that flap up from the center crease and press down to form a triangle that points towards the artist. Repeat with the left side top flap.

  4. Step 4

    Flip the paper over so that the bottom flaps are now on top. Repeat Step 3.

  5. Step 5

    Fold the right flap on one side from the top point to the center crease and then the left flap from the top point to the center crease this makes a smooth-faced flap. Continue the same process on the other side of the origami paper.

  6. Step 6

    Bend the bottom point up to the midpoint, unfold and then bend the top point down to the mid point, unfold. Set the crease by running a pencil or straight edge over the fold.

  7. Step 7

    Double over each one of the four top points down from the center crease, under each of the four flaps.

  8. Step 8

    Pull apart the opposite corners to see the origami star box come into shape. Flatten the inner bottom to allow the box to rest even on a smooth surface.
