Things You'll Need:
- 2 to 3 pot clips
- Twist ties
- Bamboo stick
- Larger clay pot
- Potting moss
-
Step 1
Take a pot clip and place it across the pot of the orchid or at an angle, whichever works best to secure the orchid and move the clip until it feels snug.
-
Step 2
Add a second clip in the pot going lengthwise and crossing the other clip. Try different ways, if going lengthwise doesn't work, until the plant stabilizes.
-
Step 3
Use a bamboo stick for taller orchid plants with flowers in order to steady the plant even more. Put the bamboo stick into the potting material while making sure the stick remains close to the plant as support.
-
Step 4
Wrap twist ties above a node on the bamboo stick and around the center of the orchid stem. Tie it tight. The material of the twist ties prevents the chance of cutting into the orchid's stem because it is so light yet effective.
-
Step 5
Check to see if the orchid is stable enough. If not, tie another twist tie to the stick and orchid. Following the same procedure as before until the plant becomes steady.
-
Step 6
Put the whole pot with the orchid in a larger sized clay pot if the plant still needs more stability.
-
Step 7
Cover up the pot in the clay pot by placing potting moss around the orchid and inside the clay pot.
