Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • New waterspout hardware (slip-on or screw-on)
  • Screwdriver (phillips or flat head depending on spout)
  • Pipe joint compound or pipe thread seal tape
  • Caulk gun with caulk
  1. Step 1

Determine the type of bath spout your tub fixture uses. Compare it to the original spout type. The two types are screw-on or slip-on. The slip-on type will have a set-screw underneath the bath spout fixture.

  2. Step 2

Put pipe thread seal tape on the threads of the supply pipe (sticking out of the shower wall) threads or spread pipe joint compound on the bath spout threads located at the spout nipple.

  3. Step 3

Place a screw-on bath spout type onto the supply pipe as far as it will go. Rotate the spout clockwise until it is tight and flush with the wall.

  4. Step 4

Install the slip-on bath spout type by first making sure the set-screw on the bottom is loose. Slip the spout onto the pipe. Wiggle the spout onto the pipe until it is straight. Tighten the set-screw underneath the pipe with a screwdriver.

  5. Step 5

Pull the spout gently to ensure that it is fastened tightly to the pipe. If the spout rotates or wiggles, reinforce it by tightening the set-screw tighter, or screwing the spout on tighter in a clockwise direction, depending on the spout type.

  6. Step 6

Apply caulk between the spout and the shower wall to fill in the gap. Wipe off excess caulk with a wet towel. Let it dry before running water.
