Treat your yard as you would an artist's canvas. Let your landscaping ideas run rampant in your mind, as you highlight your plants and trees within perfect view of your home. To ensure a masterpiece that will stand out when you are finished, frame your landscaping project with different types of edging.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Metal edging
  • Stakes
  • Electric saw
  • Rocks
  1. Step 1

Draw your plans on paper to view your edging in small scale. The purpose of edging is to keep your landscaping plants separated from your lawn's grass and other plants. It also cuts down on unwanted weeds.

  2. Step 2

Hammer stakes into the ground where you want to use metal edging. Align the edging so that it travels in front of the stakes. Continue around the perimeter of the bed, pressing down on the edging so that it goes into the ground slightly.

  3. Step 3

Bend the metal edging back and forth to make a crease, at the end of the bed. Cut off the unwanted portion with an electric saw.

  4. Step 4

Place landscaping rocks around the outside of the bed for a different type of edging. There is no need to use mortar, just place the rocks attractively.

  5. Step 5

Use cobblestone edging along your driveway. Edging frames your driveway and cuts down on encroaching grass and weeds.

Tips & Warnings
  • Drive by your house after finishing your edging project. It helps to see your yard from different angles and also helps you make necessary changes to improve your yard's appearance.
