A chokehold or sleeper hold means an attacker compresses the carotid artery and the jugular vein by squeezing their bicep into the front of the victim's throat. This is a life threatening injury. Escape from a chokehold using Kung Fu self defense techniques as written below. It is best to perform all the steps below on a gymnastic mat or other soft floor covering in case of a fall.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Allow partner to wrap their arm around your neck in the sleeper hold position. The sleeper hold or choke hold carried out during practice. There should be no attempt to distress or hurt a partner in the practice session.

Step2
Circle step out with left leg so that you force partner's arm back. Have your hands on your partner's arm that is attempting the strangle hold. You are now facing the opponent but off to their right side.
Step3
Grab your partner's left side with your right arm and move in towards them. Complete this step simultaneously with step 4.
Step4
Place your right leg in between partner's leg and get a firm footing. Keep the knee slightly bent to avoid injury.
Step5
Step slightly around your partner with the leg before kicking them in the back of their right knee with your right leg. Step 5 takes place instantly after steps 3 and 4 are complete resulting in a very swift movement to unbalance the opponent.
Step6
Step away from partner to complete the move and make an escape. This move throws your partner off balance when force is applied.
