Kung Fu is the ultimate self-defense art as it uses the opponent's weight and often gravity against them. When a potential attacker who is stronger and taller grabs both wrists, it may seem like there is no way out. Escaping a two-handed fist grab is a Kung Fu technique and the basic elements are below. Practice this technique in a martial arts center or at home with a partner.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Stand approximately four feet away from your partner facing each other. It is a good idea to work on a gymnastic mat or soft ground surface in case of a fall.

  2. Step 2

Allow your partner to move forward and grab both of your wrists and firmly hold. This is only practice and there should be no attempts to hurt or distress the other person in any way.

  3. Step 3

Make both of your hands into fists. This means closing the fingers against the palm with the thumb resting on the outside of the balled fingers.

  4. Step 4

Turn your fists outwards and downwards at the same time, forcing your partner to drop your wrists. Your partner may topple forward slightly at this point due to the change in their center of gravity from the unexpected downward movement.

  5. Step 5

Catch your partner by surprise by unballing fists and with palms flat and out push them by the shoulders. As they were already off balance from the move in step 4, this should send them toppling in the other direction, given you enough time to escape.

  6. Step 6

Adapt this technique for one handed wrist attacks.
