While kickboxing is a popular competitive sport in the United States, it has also become the new fitness craze. Working both the mind and body, kickboxing strengthens and sculpts the muscles while building confidence and teaching basic self-defense strategy. The spinning rear kick is an advanced kickboxing technique which with a few simple tricks and practice you can add to your repertoire.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Prepare for the spinning rear kick by placing yourself in the on-guard position or the kickboxing four-point stance with your non-dominant side facing towards your target. Keep your knees slightly bent and your arms up with your fist near your shoulders and chin.

  2. Step 2

Take note of your target's position before you begin your kick, so that you can prepare accurately for your spin. There are two options for impact with your spinning back kick. You can plan on impacting the target with your calf, hitting your opponent in the side of the body. You may also choose to kick with your heel, hitting the front of your opponent's body.

  3. Step 3

Place your body weight on your outside leg and rotate on the ball of your foot. Pick up your kicking leg and swing it behind you and begin the spin. The spinning motion of your body will create some of the force behind your kick: however, make sure that your stomach muscles are engaged as well, so that you do not strain your lower back during the kick. The strength of your abdomen will also add force to the kick.

  4. Step 4

Release your leg so that you naturally fall back to the kickboxing four-point stance. Remember to keep your arms up in defense position at all times in case of counter attack.
