When kickboxing, it is just as important to know how to defend yourself as it is to punch. You can't continue the fight if you are knocked out from a punch that you were unable to block. Follow these steps to learn how to defend yourself in kickboxing.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Place your arms in the basic kickboxing defensive position. Your elbows should be at a 90 degree angle on the side of your body. Position your arms in front of your shoulders with your hands in front of your chin.

  2. Step 2

Block your shin from a kick using the shin block technique. Lift your knee to your chest and pull your opposite shoulder in slightly. After you block the kick drop your leg back down.

  3. Step 3

Defend a punch using the bob and weave move. Move your head up and down and from side to side to defend yourself so the opponent does not make contact. If you throw a punch, begin to bob and weave immediately.

  4. Step 4

Bend your elbow 90 degrees and position your fist so that the palm is facing out to prevent a high punch to the face. The forearm is above the head.

  5. Step 5

Maneuver the forearm to position it towards the side of the body to stop an outside punch. The arm is at a 90 degree angle with the fist tightly clenched.

  6. Step 6

Protect yourself from kickboxing punches to your stomach or chest. Rotate your forearm so your palm faces your body and place your arm in the center of your body. It should be at a 90 degree angle with your fist tightly clenched.
