Step 1
Remove the kayaking gear from the water. Look over the kayak and check for any problems. You want to make sure that the kayak was not damaged during your ride and requires repair.
-
Step 2
Rinse the kayak and paddles with a hose as soon as you get out of the water. Over time, saltwater can lead to corrosion if not rinsed thoroughly off of your kayaking gear. Make sure you rinse all inside and outside parts of the kayak.
-
Step 3
Wash the kayak with mild soap and water. Plan to regularly wash your kayak, especially if you use it in saltwater. Polish away any stains that are difficult to remove.
-
Step 4
Protect your kayak from fading. Certain kayaks, including plastic models, have a tendency to fade when left in the sun too long. Use a wax that is safe on plastics to protect it from sun damage.
