The Two-Arm Shoulder Throw is a basic technique in judo, but in order to learn it you'll need to have had other basic judo experience. If you know how to get into a judo fighting stance and have done a One-Arm Shoulder Throw, the Two-Arm Shoulder Throw is an easy modification you can quickly learn. Make sure your opponent can fall safely before you throw him.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Grab securely with your left hand under your opponent's right upper arm. Grab securely with your right hand either on your opponent's left lapel, right lapel or right shoulder.

  2. Step 2

Throw off your opponent's balance by pulling her forward with your hands. At the same time, rotate your body out slightly so that you step back with your left side and keep your right side facing your opponent.

  3. Step 3

Use your left arm to lift your opponent's right arm up high enough to get your right arm and shoulder under it.

  4. Step 4

Continue to rotate so that your back is to your opponent. Bend at the knee and pull your opponent's arm completely over your right shoulder.

  5. Step 5

Continue to bend forward at the waist and pull your opponent up and over your right shoulder. Maintain your grip until your opponent has been completely thrown and is on the floor.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't rely on your upper body strength to pull your opponent up and over your shoulder as you throw. Make sure that you pull your opponent off balance early in the technique and then proceed as quickly as possible through the rest of the throw. Use your speed to take full advantage of your opponent's momentum so that you don't have to muscle him through the throw.
