Things You'll Need:
- Full-sized punching bag or sparring pad
-
Step 1
Practice the jeet kune do hook kick with a full-sized punching bag or sparring pad, or you can practice by kicking straight into the air. Perform the movements step by step slowly until you master the move, and then begin to work the kick into one smooth, continuous motion.
-
Step 2
Begin in the basic martial arts four-point stance with your dominant leg slightly behind you and your arms bent with your fists up near your shoulders. Keep your arms in this defense position throughout the entire exercise.
-
Step 3
Bring your back leg forward to your front leg, turning your body so that your side is facing your target. Shift your weight onto your back leg and bend the heel of your front leg so that it comes as close to your buttocks as possible.
-
Step 4
Kick your leg out in a hooking motion, impacting the top of your foot with your target. Do not attempt to push through the kick, as is common in some jeet kune do techniques, rather impact the target and spring your leg back so that your heel once again is near your buttocks.
-
Step 5
Release your front leg to the floor and step your back leg back so that you are once again in your four-point stance. Repeat slowly until you are comfortable and then make then combine the separate motions to make one smooth and powerful hook kick.
