Jazz dance is a form of dance that has been evolving since the early 1900s. It's closely related to ballet and tap but also has influenced more modern dancing such as hip hop and breakdancing. To learn jazz dance you must start with the basic steps. The instructions below will teach you a beginner's move called the jazz step touch. Keep practicing and you'll get it in no time.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Step to the side with one foot on the first count.

  2. Step 2

Point the other foot and touch the floor next to the foot you just stepped on with the ball of your foot. This move is on done on the second count.

  3. Step 3

Continue repeating Steps 1 and 2 from side to side.

  4. Step 4

Add your arms to the step touch by pumping them down and up; "up" on the step and "down" on the touch. Snap you fingers if you like on the down move.

  5. Step 5

Do the step touch from side to side on the dance floor, add a bounce to your step and keep in rhythm to the music.

  6. Step 6

Drag your toes into the "touch" to jazz it up a bit. Step, drag the toes of the following foot across the floor and then touch. Put your hips into it and add on a shake to your shoulders, up and down or back and forth.

  7. Step 7

Move forward or backwards across the floor, step in any direction you want to go.
