Instructions

    • 1

Locate wall studs with a stud finder. Drill a hole in the wall between each stud with a hole saw.

    • 2

Insert the blower hose into a hole in the wall. Make sure to point the hose down towards the bottom of the wall.

    • 3

Wrap a rag around the hose to help prevent blow back and dust from coming out of the wall.

    • 4

Fill the wall cavity with blow-in insulation. As the wall fills, pull back until the entire cavity is full.

    • 5

Tell the person controlling the blower to stop when you feel resistance in the hose. The resistance occurs when the wall fills up and the installation can't come out of the hose.

    • 6

Repeat this process through all of the holes in your wall. Patch up the holes and paint them to match the rest of the walls.

Tips & Warnings

  • Blowing in insulation is two-person job. You need someone to monitor the blower outside and someone inside to fill the wall cavities.

  • Always wear a dust mask when blowing in insulation. Breathing the dust from the insulation poses health risks because the insulation contains chemicals to prevent bugs and to make fire retardant.

  • Blown-in insulation is not recommend for walls that don't contain a moisture barrier. Using it can cause constant moisture in the walls, leading to rotting sills and paint problems and it can attract bugs into your walls.
