Things You'll Need:
- Drywall, also known as sheetrock
- Measuring tape
- Drywall cutting tools
- Pencil
-
Step 1
Take initial estimates of the measurements of the walls on which you wish to install drywall. Measure the distance from floor to ceiling for height, and corner to corner for width. Draw a sketch of the room you're working and include electrical outlets, windows and doors.
-
Step 2
Purchase your drywall at a home improvement store. Take your measurements and sketch from Step 1 to aid in buying the right amount. Ask for assistance from a store associate to guide you to the correct product. If you're going to drywall a bathroom or moisture-prone area, you're going to need a drywall called "Green Back."
-
Step 3
Clear the area in which you're going to be working and arrange the drywall for easy access.
-
Step 4
Choose a corner in the room to begin working and measure from the floor to the ceiling. Use a tape measure for exact measurements.
-
Step 5
Go to a sheet of drywall with your tape measure, and apply the measurements you took in Step 4. Use a pencil to mark, directly on the drywall, where to make any cuts. When you're working in areas without electrical boxes or other obstructions, cutting may not be necessary.
