How to Make Wine Labels

As an amateur wine maker, you may have had more than a passing thought about making your own wine labels. Labels are not only a practical way to identify different wines, but they are also essential for marketing your wine. With some time, creativity and a computer, you can make this thought a reality. Read on to learn how to make unique attractive labels for your wine from scratch.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Label making software
  • Picture (logo, photo)
  • Printer
  • Stock labels
  • Paper cutter or Scissors
  1. Step 1

    Start up your label making program.

  2. Step 2

    Open the image or picture that you will use in your label design. This can be your business logo, a photo that you have taken or a picture from the images that come with your label making program.

  3. Step 3

    Type in the name of your wine. Add any special effects that you want to have on your label. Enter other important details such as your wine's vintage, appellation and the like.

  4. Step 4

    Save and print out your design onto the stock labels.

  5. Step 5

    Allow the labels to dry and then coat them with a spray waterproof sealant such as Polyurethane, Spray Varnish, Top Coat Spray or Krylon's Clear Acrylic Sealers.

  6. Step 6

    Cut the labels and attach them to the bottle.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can use desktop publishing software such as PrintShop pro and FileMaker Pro and Print Artist Platinum Plus.
  • You can also place a warning label at the back of the wine as well.
  • Pre-made labels are also available that you can customize with your own name and colors.
