Step 1
Choose the item that you're going to use the crown bit and power router. Use the bit for crown molding and fancy edges that resemble the molding. You can create picture frames and expensive-looking molding and fine finish edges of furniture with the crown molding bit.
-
Step 2
Attach the bit in the collet and tighten it firmly. Use the wrenches that are supplied to remove the bit in the collet and replace it with the crown molding bit.
-
Step 3
Clean any debris from a previous job off the collet before you insert the crown bit in the router. Insert the bit all the way into the collet and then raise it 1/16 inch. Tighten it down.
-
Step 4
Secure the wood into a clamp or make certain that it's stationary before you begin. This is a safety precaution that also gives you a lot more control.
-
Step 5
Pull the crown bit on the router through the wood rather than push it. Use an edge guide as you move the router down the wood.
-
Step 6
Keep steady pressure as you guide the router through the wood. Make certain that the router is always in contact with new wood. This keeps the edges nice and even and creates a more attractive final product.
-
Step 7
Keep a steady speed. If you move the router too slowly, you'll cause burn out. When you move too fast, the router blade rips and damages with tearout.
