Having a house-cleaning schedule to follow makes it an easy process to see what needs to be done in any given time period to keep the home tidy and clean. Devote the time to making a house-cleaning schedule and you'll be rewarded with a home for which you can be proud.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Purchase a calendar or print one out from the Internet. Having something visual you can post where the family will see it daily will help everyone do their part.
Step2
List what needs to be done daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly around the home. To get some inspiration, you may want to visit an Internet site such as Flylady (see Resources below), whose whole website is devoted to helping others develop a housecleaning schedule.
Step3
Realize that none of the sources you utilize to help make your schedule actually live in your home. You'll have to tailor it to your family and your lifestyle. But it's a place to start.
Step4
Post a list of what needs to be done in each room, especially for the children. You might want to post it inside the closet so they can refer to it when they need it. For children who can't yet read, you could use pictures of things as visual reminders of what they need to do in each room.
Step5
Stick to your plan. If you miss a day, just pick up with the next day's tasks. The ones you miss will come back around again soon enough.
Step6
Sit back and enjoy the fruits of your family's labor: a house you can be proud of, and one whose condition won't embarrass you if unexpected visitors arrive.
