Finding the perfect bloom is only part of the job in creating a festive homecoming mum. Another important piece to the ensemble is the ribbon tail. It's the part of the mum that announces your school spirit and loyalty. Just follow these easy steps to add a ribbon tail to your own homecoming mum.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Rolls of ribbon (a roll of each school color)
  • Circular cardboard backing or shield
  • Stapler or hot glue gun
  1. Step 1

Choose various styles and colors of ribbon to make your tail. At a minimum, the school's colors should be represented. If the mum is for a senior, be sure to include ribbons of silver, white and gold.

  2. Step 2

Measure out and cut several lengths of ribbon from the rolls. The longest streamers should be about thirty inches or so. Anything that seems too long or shabby can always be trimmed off at the end of the project.

  3. Step 3

Begin attaching the ribbons to the cardboard backing with a stapler or hot glue gun. Try to attach it to the middle of the backing. Anything too close to the bottom is at risk of falling off later.

  4. Step 4

Glue a second cardboard backing over the one with the attached ribbons. This is an especially important step if a stapler has been used. This prevents the staples from snagging clothing when the mum is being worn.

  5. Step 5

Attach various charms or embellishments to your ribbon streamers using a glue gun. Messages can be added to the ribbons using glitter glue or pre-made lettering.

  6. Step 6

Proceed to assemble the rest of the corsage.
