Making your own homecoming mum can be a memorable part of the homecoming experience. Whether you're making a triple mum, double mum, single mum or garter mum, adding ribbons to your homecoming mums is fun, easy and attractive.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Cardboard shield
  • Stapler
  1. Step 1

Choose your ribbon, making sure that you have a variety of sizes. Choose two or three ribbon colors, depending on the colors of the homecoming, the colors of your school and the sizes of ribbon you have to work with. You don't want all the ribbons to be the same thickness because you won't be able to see all the colors.

  2. Step 2

Cut each color of ribbon about 6 inches long. You can go smaller or larger, depending on the size of mum that you're creating, but don't go too small because you must be able to fold up the ribbon at the end.

  3. Step 3

Layer the thinner ribbon on the wider ribbon, so that all the colors are visible.

  4. Step 4

Fold the ribbon up like a fish or a loop. You want to have both ends of the ribbon touching and the middle of the ribbon creating a loop.

  5. Step 5

Staple your ribbon onto the cardboard shield and repeat steps 1 through 5 until you fill your entire shield with ribbons.

Tips & Warnings
  • Picture your cardboard shield as a clock and fill in the 3, 6, 9 and 12 positions on your shield first before filling in the rest of the ribbons.
  • For a different look, have some of the ribbons one color of your school and the other ones the other color of your school and pair each with a white or black ribbon.
